Broad-bosomed Earth, mother of all. From her without union arose the starry Sky (Uranus), the long Mountains, and the barren Sea (Pontus); with Uranus she bore the twelve Titans, the three Cyclopes, and the three Hundred-Handers. When her sky-husband locked the elder children in Tartarus she armed the youngest Titan Kronos with the adamantine sickle that ended his reign — and centuries later, by Tartarus, she bore Typhon to challenge Zeus.
