Rhea

Sister-consort of Kronos and mother of the six elder Olympians — Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, Zeus. When Kronos swallowed each child at birth she hid the infant Zeus on Crete (Hesiod sets the hiding-place at Lyktos under Mt. Aigaion; Apollodorus locates it on Mt. Ida) and handed her husband a stone wrapped in swaddling clothes in his place. Later cult fused her with the Anatolian Mother of the Gods, Cybele, whose lions and timbrels became her own attributes.
