Hades

Lord of the dead and the unseen world below. With Zeus and Poseidon he drew lots after the Titanomachy and received the underworld; his name is the dwelling-place as well as the god. The Greeks call him *Plouton*, the giver, source of subterranean wealth — yet they prefer not to speak his name aloud. He took Persephone as his queen by abducting her from the Nysian meadow.
