Typhon

The most fearsome monster in Greek mythology — a hundred dragon heads, eyes of fire, voice of a thousand beasts. Gaia bore him by Tartarus to challenge Zeus after the Titans had fallen, and the Olympian had to fight him singly with the thunderbolt; at the end Zeus cast him into Tartarus, with mountains of Sicily and Cilicia (Etna, Amanus) pinning him down. By his consort Echidna, Hesiod names him the father of the heroic-age brood — Orthus the two-headed hound of Geryon, Cerberus at the gate of Hades, the Lernaean Hydra, and the fire-breathing Chimaera; the later Apollodoran tradition extends the line to the Nemean Lion as well.
