Iapetus

One of the twelve Titans and ancestor of the human race through his sons. By the Oceanid Clymene he fathered the four Iapetids whose careers stand for the bargain between gods and men: Atlas the sky-bearer, Menoetius struck down by Zeus's thunderbolt, Prometheus the fire-thief, and Epimetheus the husband of Pandora. The Iapetid cycle in Hesiod is one of the principal foundational stories of mortal toil.
