Prometheus
Prometheus
TitanForethought, Fire
Son of Iapetus and the great Titan benefactor of mortals — his name is Forethought itself. He tricked Zeus over the division of sacrifice at Mecone, then stole fire from heaven in a hollow fennel-stalk to bring it down to men. Zeus retaliated with two punishments: Pandora, sent to Epimetheus as the first woman with her jar of evils, and for Prometheus himself bondage to a Caucasus crag where an eagle ate his ever-renewing liver, until Heracles eventually shot the bird and freed him.
