Phoebe

Titaness of bright intellect and prophetic light, named for her brightness (φοίβη / 'shining'). With her brother Coeus she bore Leto and Asteria, and so stands as grandmother of Apollo and Artemis. In Aeschylus's Delphic succession she is the third holder of the oracle — inheriting it from her sister Themis and bequeathing it as a birthday gift to her grandson Apollo, who takes the cult-title *Phoebus* from her.
