Coeus

One of the twelve elder Titans, named in Hesiod's catalogue as the husband of his sister Phoebe — together the pair fathered Leto (mother of Apollo and Artemis) and Asteria. The later philosophical-allegorical tradition identifies his domain with the pole or axis of heaven, around which the constellations turn, drawing on the etymological play of his name (Κοῖος / 'querying intelligence').
