Oceanus

Eldest Titan, the great fresh-water river that in archaic cosmography circles the earth and to which all rivers, springs, and the Ocean itself return. With his sister-consort Tethys he is the source-pair of the 3,000 river-gods and 3,000 Oceanid-nymphs. Homer twice gives him as the source of all the gods in the *Iliad*'s deceit-of-Zeus episode — an archaic genealogical claim that Hesiod recasts as one tradition among many.
