Primordial Night, born of Chaos and feared even by Zeus. Alone she bore Doom (Moros), Death (Thanatos), Sleep (Hypnos), the tribe of Dreams, Nemesis, Old Age, Strife (Eris), and the Hesperides; with her brother Erebus she fathered the brighter children Aether and Hemera. In Homer, Hypnos boasts that Night herself once compelled Zeus to stand aside.
