Selene

Goddess of the Moon, sister of Helios and Eos, who rises each evening to drive her two-yoked silver chariot across the night sky. The *Homeric Hymn to Selene* describes the light that wells from her immortal head and floods the earth. The Hellenistic-Roman tradition gives her a love for the beautiful mortal Endymion, on whom Zeus laid an eternal sleep so that Selene could descend each night to visit him in a Carian cave.
