Periphetes
Periphetes Korynetes
Minor DeityClub, Brigandage
The Club-bearer (Korynetes) of Epidaurus, first of the brigands Theseus killed on his journey from Troezen to Athens. He was the lame son of Hephaestus and Anticleia, and carried a club of solid bronze with which he beat travellers to death on the road. Theseus wrestled the club from him, killed him with his own weapon, and kept it thereafter — the sign, in every tradition, that like Heracles with the Nemean hide he had chosen to be known by a weapon he had taken rather than one he had been given.
Origin
Son of Hephaestus and the mortal Anticleia; lame-footed in the tradition of his divine father
