Hekate

TitanWitchcraft, Crossroads

Daughter of Asteria and Perses, and the recipient of the longest hymn in Hesiod's *Theogony* — the poet declares that Zeus alone honoured her above all the gods, granting her a share in earth, sea, and sky. The classical and Hellenistic tradition specialises her into the goddess of witchcraft, ghosts, and the night-crossroads (*trioditis*, of the three ways), invoked above all by Medea in Apollonius and Euripides as the patron of her dark art.
