Harmonia

Harmonia

Harmonia

Minor DeityGoddess of Concord, Wife of Cadmus

Daughter of Ares and Aphrodite in the canonical Greek tradition; in the Samothracian variant she is daughter of Electra and Zeus and sister of the Cabeiri. Given by Zeus to Cadmus in the first marriage ever attended by all the gods on Olympus; Hephaestus presented her with the necklace that became the curse-object of the Theban cycle, passing from Polynices to Eriphyle and driving Alcmaeon's matricide. With Cadmus she had four daughters (Semele, Agave, Autonoe, Ino) and one son (Polydorus), whose descendants make up the central figures of the Theban tragic cycle. In old age she accompanied Cadmus into Illyrian exile and was transformed with him into a serpent.

Origin

Daughter of Ares and Aphrodite; alternate Samothracian tradition makes her daughter of Electra and Zeus.
