Calypso
Kalypso
Minor DeityConcealment
Nymph of the remote island of Ogygia, daughter of the Titan Atlas. She rescued Odysseus from the wreck of his last ship and kept him as her lover for seven years, even offering him immortality if he would stay. He refused and sat weeping on the shore for the smoke of Ithaca rising. At last Hermes brought Zeus's order to release him, and Calypso herself helped him build the raft on which he sailed away.
Origin
Daughter of Atlas in Homer; other traditions make her an Oceanid daughter of Tethys
