Queen of the Phaeacians, wife of Alcinous, more honoured among her people than any mortal queen of the Greek imagination. Athena told Odysseus to throw himself first at her knees, not the king's, when seeking passage home. A generation earlier she had warned Jason that her husband intended to send Medea back to her father unless she were already wed, and so contrived their marriage in the cave of Macris that same night.
