Amycus
Amykos
Minor DeityBoxing, Hospitality Denied
Savage king of the Bebryces on the southern shore of the Propontis, son of Poseidon by the Bithynian nymph Melia. He forced every stranger who landed on his coast to face him in a boxing match, killing them one by one, until the Argo touched his shore and Polydeuces answered the challenge on the first morning. The match was quick: Amycus swung wildly, Polydeuces stepped inside the guard and struck once above the ear, and the Bebrycian king fell dead on the sand.
