Urania

Muse of astronomy and the celestial arts; her name means 'the heavenly one' (from οὐρανός, sky). Named at Hes. *Theog.* 78. The Hellenistic-Roman canon makes her the most cerebral of the nine, patroness of philosophical poetry as well as astronomy; her iconographic attributes are the celestial globe and the compass-rod.
