Thalia

Thalia

Thaleia

Minor DeityComedy, Pastoral Poetry

Muse of comedy and pastoral poetry in the Hellenistic-Roman canon; her name means 'the festive' or 'the blooming.' Named at Hes. *Theog.* 77. Distinct from the Charis Thalia, with whom she shares a name — the two are separate figures in the Greek tradition, not conflated. Her iconographic attribute is the comic mask and often the shepherd's crook.
