Muse of choral dance and the choral lyric in the Hellenistic-Roman canon; her name means 'she who delights in dance.' Named at Hes. *Theog.* 78. An alternative tradition names her as mother of the Sirens by Achelous, a minority variant to the dominant Melpomene-attribution. Her iconographic attributes are the lyre and the dancing pose.
