Polyhymnia

Muse of sacred hymn, rhetoric, and (in the Roman period) of pantomime; her name means 'she of many hymns.' Named at Hes. *Theog.* 78. A late Orphic tradition makes her the mother of Orpheus, competing with the canonical Calliope-attribution that the project follows elsewhere. Her iconographic posture is pensive, often veiled, with chin resting on the hand.
