Polydeuces

The divine twin of the Dioscuri, immortal son of Zeus by Leda, matchless at the fist. On the Argo's outbound voyage he sailed into Bebrycia and answered King Amycus's cruel boxing challenge, battering the giant king to death with a single clean strike over the ear (Apollonius *Argonautica* 2.67-97; Theocritus *Idyll* 22.80-134). In the Dioscuric tradition he shared his immortality with his mortal twin Castor, so that the pair pass alternate days in Hades and on Olympus (Pindar *Nemean* 10.55-90).
