Idmon
Idmon
HeroProphecy
Seer of the Argo, who went on the voyage knowing he would not return — his own prophetic art had already shown him his death. Apollonius names him the son of Apollo by the nymph Cyrene, though others claim Abas of Argos was his mortal father and that "Idmon" (the knowing one) was simply the name his art had won him. At the land of the Mariandyni a wild boar drove its tusks into his thigh as he rested by a reed-bed, and he died in the arms of his comrades (Apollonius *Argonautica* 2.815-850).
Origin
Named son of Apollo and Cyrene in the Argonautic tradition, though Apollonius 1.139-145 concedes that others made Abas of Argos his biological father.
