Hebe

Hēbē

Minor DeityGoddess of Youth; Cup-bearer of the Gods

Goddess of youthful bloom, daughter of Zeus and Hera (Hes. *Theog.* 921–923, where Hera bears Hebe, Ares, and Eileithyia). She was the cup-bearer of the Olympians, pouring the nectar before that office passed to Ganymede, and Homer shows her serving the gods and helping Hera yoke her chariot (Hom. *Il.* 4.2–3; 5.722–732). When Heracles was taken up to Olympus and made immortal, Hebe was given to him as his bride — the reward of eternal youth for the hero's labours (Hes. *Theog.* 950–955; Hom. *Od.* 11.602–604).

Origin

Daughter of Zeus and Hera (Hes. Theog. 921-923); wife of the deified Heracles.
