Euterpe

Muse of music and specifically of the aulos (double-flute) in the Hellenistic-Roman canon; her name means 'she of rejoicing well' (from εὖ + τέρπω). Named at Hes. *Theog.* 77. The aulos-association made her the patroness of the dithyramb and the lyric chorus; her iconographic attribute is the pair of aulos-pipes.
