Eirene

One of the three Horai, the personification of peace, daughter of Zeus and Themis (Hes. *Theog.* 901–906). 'Blooming Eirene' represents the season of peace in which the works of men prosper. At Athens she received a state cult after the mid-fourth century, and the sculptor Cephisodotus made the famous statue of Eirene cradling the infant Plutus (Wealth) in her arms — peace as the nurse of prosperity (Paus. 1.8.2; 9.16.2). The Romans worshipped her as Pax.
