Kleiō

Minor DeityHistory

Muse of history in the Hellenistic-Roman canon, named in the standard list at Hes. *Theog.* 77; her name derives from κλέος (fame, glory) and is glossed as 'the glorifier' or 'the proclaimer.' Her iconographic attribute is the scroll or tablet. A late genealogy makes her the mother of Hyacinth by Pierus, a conceit to explain Apollo's Thracian jealousy.
