Khryseis

HeroCaptivity

Daughter of Chryses, priest of Apollo at the coastal town of Chryse, captured by Agamemnon during an early raid and allotted to him as his prize of honour. When her father came to the Greek camp with the golden staff and crown of Apollo, offering a king's ransom, Agamemnon drove him off with threats; Chryses prayed to his god, and Apollo sent the plague that raged over the Greek host for nine days until Agamemnon was shamed into giving her back (Homer *Iliad* 1.8-56). It was then, to restore his prize, that he took Briseis from Achilles (*Iliad* 1.318-348).

Origin
