Castor

The mortal twin of the Dioscuri, son of Tyndareus of Sparta, greatest horseman of his age. He sailed with the Argo alongside his brother Polydeuces and fought at his side in every quarrel along the voyage (Apollonius *Argonautica* 1.146-150). When Castor was killed in a later cattle-raid, Polydeuces begged Zeus to let him share his immortality, and so the brothers alternate their days between Hades and Olympus (Pindar *Nemean* 10.55-90).
