Antiphates

Minor DeityCannibal Kingship

King of the Laestrygonians, the giant cannibals whose harbour at Telepylos destroyed eleven of Odysseus's twelve ships. When the scouts came up from the beach to his house he seized one of them on the spot and prepared him for his meal; the other two fled back to the ships. Antiphates roused the Laestrygonian host, and from the high cliffs above the land-locked harbour the giants hurled down rocks the size of boulders, smashing the hulls and spearing the men in the water like fish. Only Odysseus's own ship, moored outside the narrow harbour mouth, cut its cable and escaped.

Origin
